Champions League Betting part 2
Carrying on from the last article on football betting and the Champions League, we now move onto Group E which sees one of the best sides in the competition in recent seasons struggling to qualify. Liverpool travel to Debreceni knowing that nothing short of a win will do. Even a win may not be enough as Fiorentina host Lyon. If the Italians win that game then Liverpool are out plain and simple and will have to look forward to the Europa League in the New Year.
Strange as it may seem, that could open the door to a trophy this season and a European final would bring welcome relief for Rafael Benitez seeing as his side is currently 13pts behind in the title race and we are still in November. Liverpool are 1.30 which seems a little bit low to me as Debreceni are no pushovers and they can be backed at 9.00. Fiorentina are priced at 2.00 with Lyon at 3.70.
Group F is turning into the most fascinating group of all with defending champions Barcelona in danger of missing out. Only one win in four games sees them in third position and they face a tricky home tie against Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan. Barcelona are priced at 1.75 with the Italians 4.75 and the draw at 3.35. The resurgence in football in the former Soviet Union is proving a serious stumbling block for two of the biggest names in world football.
It will be a nervy night at the Nou Camp and defeat could push them out of the competition. That would literally be unthinkable and Inter Milan could just be the perfect team to exploit any frustration on behalf of the Spaniards. Rubin Kazan host Dynamo Kiev in what will surely be another close tie. But Kazan’s results against Barcelona rightfully make them favourites and they are priced at 1.90 with Kiev at 3.85.
Group G and this really is the last chance for Rangers and they must beat Stuttgart at Ibrox to stand any chance of reaching the last 16. Actually I have always thought that with certain clubs, going into the Europa League isn’t such a bad thing and that could be the case for Rangers. They are priced at 2.60 as are Stuttgart with the draw at 3.20. Meanwhile group leaders and favourites Sevilla travel to Unirea Urziceni and are priced up at an interesting 2.20.
The final group is proving to be a cake walk for Arsenal and they should rubber stamp their passage through to the last 16 when they host Standard Liege. Arsene Wenger will want to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to Sunderland and they should outclass Liege and is why they are 1.30 with the Belgian’s at 9.00.
The final match sees AZ Alkmaar take on Olympiakos for what is surely going to be a keenly contested battle for second and even third place. AZ are currently priced at 2.10 with the Greek side at 3.40, the draw can be backed at 3.20.
