How To Select Winning Tennis Bets

Tennis betting is a great way to bet on sports. The matches cannot be drawn and generally the stronger player does win which makes selecting the winner easier. The selecting of value bets is possible because the bookmakers offer so many matches that it is impossible for them to accurately know the form, injury status and strength of every single player. Therefore, the savvy sports betting enthusiast can hold an advantage over the bookmakers in selecting their specific matches to bet on based on your own research.

Let us analyse an example from today’s betting opportunities.

Marat Safin (Russia) 2.41 v Philipp Petzschner (Germany) 1.50

It is common knowledge that Safin is reaching the end of his career and no longer able to reach the dizzy heights of ten years ago where he was world number 1 winning grand slams. Despite this, he is still a player capable of winning matches and has extraordinary talent. Petzschner is a 25 year old German professional player who has won one ATP tour title. He reached the third round of Wimbledon this year before losing to Lleyton Hewitt and is ranked 36th in the world currently. I think Safin could win this match as he is clearly more talented than his opponent, albeit on the slide coming to the end of his career. I would think strongly about a small bet on Safin for this match, as at 2.41 he could definitely play well and win.

Tennis betting is normally conducted with accumulators. If you are selecting an accumulator the more selections you get right the higher the return. I would be looking for value matches but 70/30 in favour of selecting the right match rather than selecting the right price. Rather than backing Safin in the above match in an accumulator, I would select a safer match which is not value based. By selecting a favourite who is playing a weaker player rather than a grand slam winner, that bet is more likely to reflect the odds.

If you are thinking about getting into tennis betting then you must decide whether you are going to go for the accumulator profits or finding good singles bets. There can be profits made with both approaches. If you watch a lot of Tennis on TV (like me) and are familiar with many players aside of the well-known top 20 players then you could have a real advantage on knowing who to bet on and when. Those that know that Andy Murray struggles against power players like Gonzalez or Wawrinka could also have similar knowledge about a player further down the ranking list. It is unlikely an odds compiler knows the exact weakness of Sam Querrey or a player like him, or the preferred style of opponent for him.

You can also bet on certain matches on set betting and correct score betting. For instance, Maria Sharapova was playing Marion Bartoli and some of the options for betting on bwin.com were ‘Would Bartoli win a set’ or ‘How many sets will be played in the match’, which although similar bets, offered slightly different odds. The sheer scale of variety is so interesting with Tennis betting, you can have sometimes one hundred matches everyday to analyse and bet on so you can always be in Tennis Betting action if you wish.

Tennis betting is extremely popular. Have a look at what bwin.com offers as they have lots of choices for all types of sports betting. Eurosport has live Tennis on constantly so you can sit back and enjoy the matches with a variety of betting options available. I find watching all the players not just Federer and Nadal is interesting and bwin.com shares this view by offering odds on all levels of matches on the tour.
