Progressive Staking versus Level Stakes Betting
When you are participating in sports betting you should be following some sort of system that helps you maintain your selections and staking in a disciplined way. The systems success or failure depends on your ability to pick out winning selections often enough so that your bankroll increases over time. Exactly how much you decide to wager on each selection should also not be randomised. You should bet a small proportion of your bankroll for each bet, either in a progressive fashion or using a level stakes approach. But which is best?
Levels stakes gambling is good for testing a system and for those with a low risk approach to gambling. You bet the same amount every time and therefore you should have a bankroll of between 25 and 100 units in order that you can sustain some bad runs. As you always bet the same amount you be comfortable with this bet amount. Until you reach a predefined level or wins or loses the stake amount does not change. It is not unusual for a player not to modify their stakes until their betting bankroll has doubled in size, they are then confident they have a winning system and the bankroll has growth to support larger bets.
The benefits of using level stakes betting for your sports betting or horse racing betting systems is that the emotional response to the betting is kept at an even level reducing the chances you go on tilt and start chasing losses and betting irresponsibly. There is also no chance that a losing system is hidden behind an over inflated bankroll due to progressive staking. You can constantly know how many points you are ahead by dividing your profits by your wager. This ensures you do not keep backing a losing system. Obviously the staking plan alone does not decide whether or not you win money through betting.
Progressive staking is where you increase or decrease your wagers depending on the size of your betting bank. For example, if you are betting using a 2% staking system and your betting bank is £1000, you would place £20 on your first bet. If that won your bank would then stand at £1020, and your next wager amount would be £20.40 (2% of £1020). Some punters bet with 10% systems, sometimes more, but caution is best to ensure you can always stay in the action.
This progressive system enables a faster growth of your betting bank when using a winning selection system thanks to the power of compounding and a slower reduction of your bankroll during a bad run due to the reduced wager amounts for each bet. You should watch out for when the betting amounts exceed what you are comfortable with as this can be stressful even if the system is a winning one. If your comfort level was at £10 a bet but a great run dictated you should wager at £50 per bet this may be uncomfortable for you, despite your success. Similarly, the slower reduction of your betting bankroll can mask the fact your system simply does not work.
Try both staking methods out to find a system that works for you. No matter which staking method you choose your most important choices are the actual selections you bet on, whether that is sports betting, soccer betting or horse racing betting. This area of selecting bets is where your main focus should be at all times. When you are assessing your results take into account how the staking plan changes the numbers you are facing. You can still work out your win percentage from keep accurate records, which is important.
Good luck with all of your sports betting this week.
