Weekend Premiership Betting Tips for 1st May 2010
There are just two weeks to go in the Premiership title race and only one point separating the two top teams, Chelsea and Man Utd. The football betting odds from bwin suggest that Chelsea, who are currently one point ahead of Man Utd, are favourites to become champions at 1.55 whilst Man Utd have odds of 2.30. The question is, will Chelsea drop a point and give Ferguson’s men a chance?
Here are my top bets from the Premiership fixture list for this weekend and a possible bet you could place based on these selections. Do not worry if time is not on your side, you can bet on the move by following the link and signing up to bwin.com and their mobile betting service.
Saturday – Stoke City 5/2 Draw 9/4 Everton 21/20
Stoke are safe from relegation and can class this season as a success story. They suffered a harsh 7-0 defeat to Chelsea and lost goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen to a very serious elbow injury. They have lost their last two matches including a 2-1 loss to Bolton which should have perhaps been a match where they gained a point from. Their goalkeeping loss in particular will hurt them.
Everton have won their last two matches and drawn two matches prior to the recent wins. They have scored exactly two goals in each of their last four matches. With no major injury doubts I question Stokes ability to keep up with them in the scoring department. If Everton perform well defensively I think at 21/20 we have some good value. This is definitely a match Everton will fancy winning and they have good form.
Sunday – Liverpool 13/5 Draw 13/5 Chelsea 9/10
You sense this is the match that will decide who goes into the final week of Premiership action as league leaders with Man Utd facing Sunderland away. Manager Rafa Benitez has called for support by the board for a summer overhaul but he has this season to finish first. They are a disappointing seventh in the league and face a formidable opposition today. Liverpool were undefeated in the league and had some formidable wins during April. But they are too hit and miss.
Compare Liverpool’s inconsistency to Chelsea who are league leaders and they put seven past Stoke in their last match. This should be close, but Chelsea should win comfortably in my opinion. 9/10 suits our bet and I think Chelsea are a good tip to beat a struggling Liverpool side in need of a summer clear-out as their manager suggests.
Sunday – Sunderland 15/2 Draw 7/2 Man Utd 7/20
With everything to play for against Steve Bruce’s Sunderland side Man Utd will throw everything but the kitchen sink at Sunderland in order to get the result away from home. Man Utd had a good 3-1 over a buoyant Spurs team last week and beat Man City before that. Six points from those difficult matches is excellent and they did that without star striker Wayne Rooney too.
Sunderland have had a good run winning three out of four matches in April. But in my view Steve Bruce is in awe of Alex Ferguson and Man Utd after such a long career under his management and I wonder if this will rub off onto the players. I expect that at this point of the season Man Utd will win this match and set up an exciting final week of Premiership action. Even at 7/20 the odds suit our bet when you consider the odds of our previous selections.
Putting all of our selections together in our weekly treble bet backing Man Utd at 7/20, Chelsea at 9/10 and Everton at 21/20 a £10 would return, including your initial stake, a nice £52.58.
Good luck with your football betting this weekend, whatever bets you decide to place.
