Carling Cup Betting
Continuing on from yesterday’s article on the Carling Cup football betting, Tottenham Hotspur host Everton who reached the FA Cup Final last season of course. Tottenham have a very good history in this competition and start as favourite’s tomorrow night. At any other time, this game would be a lot closer but Everton have not been firing on all cylinders lately.
David Moyes men have terrible injuries to contend with and the 5-0 loss away to Benfica and yesterdays 3-2 loss at Bolton will hardly have done wonders for their confidence. Tottenham are smarting after they lost 1-0 at home to Stoke although they did create a load of chances so they are not short in that department. Betting Odds see Tottenham as a current 1.65 with Everton at 4.50.
But I feel that this game could be very close but as ever in these sorts of fixtures, much comes down to how much the respective managers actually want it. Arsenal versus Liverpool is another interesting encounter. Arsenal will not be happy to have let a two goal lead slip against West Ham yesterday while Liverpool will be mentally on the up after beating Manchester United for a third consecutive time with their 2-0 victory at Anfield.
Arsenal tend to field the youngsters in these games and expect Arsene Wenger to do something similar again on Wednesday. Arsenal can be backed at odds of 2.10 with Liverpool at 3.10. I fancy the game to be attacking with both teams going for it. The draw may interest a few people and can be backed at odds of 3.30.
Chelsea under Carlo Ancellotti have had a solid start to the season. Winning the Community Shield, two points clear in the title race and top of their Champions League group. So not many people will fancy Bolton at the Bridge and a price of 8.00 is no real surprise. But although they are the outsiders, there is something about Bolton in this game that intrigues me.
Chelsea at 1.35 doesn’t really appeal to me at all and I have seen too many favourites go down in this competition over the years. But the last two Chelsea performances against Atletico Madrid and Blackburn Rovers have been very powerful indeed.
Another side who let slip a two goal lead at the weekend were Manchester City. Pegged back to 2-2 after leading Fulham 2-0, they missed out on a chance to go third in the league. They host little Scunthorpe United and even I can’t find a credible case for Scunthorpe to get anything out of this game.
City are very short at 1.20 and the team that Mark Hughes sends out will be very interesting. Scunthorpe can be backed at odds of 12.50 with the draw at 5.25. But if you don’t fancy some of the prices on offer then why not have a punt on the draw? It can be all too easy for teams to slip into lethargic patterns where before you know it, there are only a few minutes to go and the game is all square.
Quite often these can be games where many teams do not want extra time at any cost but they don’t do enough to prevent that during ninety minutes. Should be an interesting couple of night’s football whatever happens.
