Button Hoping To End Formula 1 Season On A High
Jenson Button finally won the title he craved with one race to spare. He becomes the first British World Champion to win the championship after a fellow Britain, following Lewis Hamilton’s dramatic victory in 2008. Finishing 5th and enough points ahead of team mate Rubens Barrichello was enough to secure the British driver his first World Championship, in his ninth season behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. He is likely to earn close to £50 million for his victory thanks to future contracts and endorsements. Using the Formula 1 odds from bwin.com we will assess what the best bets for the weekend are for the last race of this memorable season.
The final race promises to be as exciting as all of the others. On Sunday November 1st the Formula 1 roadshow hits Abu Dhabi and at 2.00pm the race commences. Whilst the World Champion has been decided, you can still bet on the antepost winner without Button with Rubens Barrichello at 2.95 and Sebastian Vettel at 1.35. Vettel will be keen for a good showing in the final race. He looked very disappointed to find out the title was now out of reach during interviews after the last Grand Prix, he will feel he has something to prove here.
The winner of the last race Mark Webber can be backed to repeat his win at 9.00. He drove very well and considering Jenson Button is rated at odds of 9.00 to win the last race but struggled under the pressure of winning the world title Webbers current form suggests there is a bit of value there. Under excellent race conditions Webber did very well and I thought he coped with the furore surrounding Buttons capture of the title, thus removing some of the coverage from himself as the race winner, with a great deal of dignity. I believe he will do well in this race. At 3.30 to win the race Lewis Hamilton seems too short for me, so in betting for one of the market favourites I would go for Sebastian Vettel at 3.50. I think he may shorten into the favourite before the race starts, as in previous races.
With the driver’s championship and car manufacturer’s championship all sown up it would be easy to think that this race is a mere formality. Whilst in certain terms it is, the competition between drivers is still as fierce as ever. Many drivers are fighting for their futures with Formula 3 drivers and other racers like Bruno Senna the nephew of the late, great Ayrton Senna all vying for their chance to shine. Drivers like Rosberg, Kubica and Trulli will all be keen to show their worth to their teams. Nico Rosberg did well in the last race and can be backed at 51.00 to win this Grand Prix.
This season will be remembered for the emergence of the Brawn Supercar and the excellent start made by Jenson Button winning six out of seven Grand Prixs early in the season. Despite the well documented shaky moments it did turn out to be enough to secure the drivers championship despite the excellent challenge of Barrichello and Vettel.
You still have the opportunity to bet on the head to head battle between Button and Barrichello in this race even though the title is decided. Currently Jenson Button can be backed at 2.02 to beat Barrichello in the race. Rubens has been better than Jenson recently, so you can back him as favourite in this head to head match at 1.70 to beat Button. I think now that the title is secured Jenson Button many find driving to his potential a lot easier as the champion and the 2.02 may be a good bet.
