Australian Open Quarter Final Tennis Betting
We are down to the business end of the 2010 Australian Open for both the men’s and woman’s singles events. One of the semi-finals for each tournament are set with Henin making a run for her eighth grand slam title after coming out of retirement facing Zheng of China and Great Britain’s Andy Murray beating Rafa Nadal when Nadal pulled out after being two sets to love down and suffering a knee injury. Murray moves on to face Cilic in the semi-finals of the men’s tournament.
We are going to focus on the remaining matches in the quarter finals and here are the tips using the tennis betting odds from bwin.com. The player’s tournament seeds are in brackets and if there is no number then they are unseeded.
Roger Federer (1) 1.30 versus Nikolai Davydenko (6) 3.20
Roger has made the last twenty two grand slam tournament semi-finals, a record that is quite remarkable. This achievement alone makes him a massive favourite to win this match. He was unlucky not to win last year losing to Nadal and with Rafa exiting the tournament against Murray makes Roger an even greater favourite. Davydenko managed to beat Federer but beating him in a Grand Slam event over five sets is a tall order. Davydenko may be bridging the gap between himself and the top four, but the obvious tip is Roger to win. At 1.30 the odds are not too bad either.
Novak Djokovic (3) 1.33 versus Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (10) 3.01
Djokovic beat Tsonga in four sets to win the 2008 Australian Open. He has gone on to maintain and arguably build on his game since then but that title remains his only Grand Slam victory. Tsonga has not lived up to that promise since then but remains a force in Tennis. Djokovic beat Kubol in straight sets in round four and will be fresh after a kind draw so far. Tsonga has beaten Taylor Dent, Tommy Haas and Almagro to get this far and has been more tested than Novak. Whilst this may have been a factor in recent years I think Novak is good value for his 1.33 to win this match and advance to the semi-finals. If he does face Federer that is a mouth watering clash as Novak beat Roger in straight sets on his way to the 2008 title, so Federer will be gunning for revenge.
Serena Williams (1) 1.18 versus Victoria Azarenka (7) 4.27
These odds look slightly over balanced towards Williams. Azarenka is an amazing fighting player and overcame a set and a break down against Zvonorava to comprehensively win 6-0 in the final set. Serena is looking in devastating form only losing six games in her last match and only nine overall in the first three rounds. Azarenka will be fighting all the way but Serena looks like going further in the tournament and a heavy favourite to lift the title in my opinion. 1.18 is short odds for the win so probably only worth betting on this match in your accumulators. Bwin are offering 2.00 for Azarenka to win a set which I would be happy to take. My tip for this match would be Serena to win in three sets in this battle of the screamers!
Na Li (16) 2.76 versus Venus Williams (6) 1.39
Venus has been tested losing a set to Schiavone in the last round and facing some unlikely tie breaks in earlier rounds. She is, however, probably the best female player at winning when below her best game. Li of China is hoping to join Zheng in the semi-finals and has had good wins against Danielle Hanchutova and fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki in round four. It would appear that Venus Williams will be one step too far for her. I expect it to be an all-Williams semi-final so I will tip Venus at 1.39 to give a nice boost to your accumulators.
